Are you having a Laugh?

Do you remember a time when you laughed so heartily you clutched your sides – struggled for breath, eyes shining and face beetroot? It doesn’t happen often, the chance to let go with laughter is few and far between in most of our lives. Often we need specific criteria to be in place:-

  • The ‘right’ place
  • The ‘right’ stimulus
  • The ‘right’ mood
  • The ‘right’ company
  • The ‘right’ time

What if we were to be able to laugh unashamedly and heartily at any chosen time? Laugh for no reason at all? Most people would argue that it would be sheer madness….utter lunacy!

How do you feel after a long laugh?

Your whole body is getting a thorough work out, all the organs are receiving an internal massage and you are fed new oxygen, cleansing stale air and toxins from your system and rejuvenating your body and mind. In the afterglow of a hearty laugh blood pressure lowers and muscles relax, releasing tension and stiffness. Endorphins will have coursed through your body, energising and uplifting you so that you feel alert and raring to go!

Why wait for the ‘perfect’ moment in life – why wait at all? What is stopping us from letting go and laughing? If you think about it, isn’t laughing for its own sake comical and ridiculous…..shouldn’t we just laugh at how silly that would make us?

What about children, do they need a reason to laugh….do we drag them away in a straight jacket the moment they start to giggle for no apparent reason? Children just feel the joy in their bones and live life to the full….laughing!

How exhausting, I hear you say, we couldn’t laugh all the time, when would we get on with any work/ jobs/ responsibilities?

But what about allowing ourselves the freedom to choose?

No, you don’t have to start by laughing in the middle of King’s Cross station in the rush hour. You could just try a little laugh ‘home alone’ – in the garden, out walking the dog, in the shower, driving, see how it feels. Silly, yes! Ridiculous, YES! How does your body feel? GREAT!!

Come and join the Chichester Laughter Club every last Saturday in the month at Hamblin Hall in Bosham and join in with others who love to laugh – for fun, health, happiness and the pure joy of laughing!

It’s a thought.
